OH Firefighters Save Teen Stuck on Zipline

Geneva firefighters used an aerial to rescue a 13-year-old boy who became trapped on a zipline at Adventure Zone when the car malfunctioned 60 feet in the air.

Geneva, OH, firefighters used an aerial to rescue a 13-year-old boy from a zipline Saturday.

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, OH—Firefighters from the village and the city of Geneva were able to rescue a 13-year-old boy stuck on a zipline Saturday afternoon, according to Geneva Fire Chief Dale Arkenburg and Don Woodward, safety director for Adventure Zone where the incident occurred.

"He was about 60 feet in the air. The car had malfunctioned," Arkenburg said.

"We rescued him with our ladder truck. We just deployed the aerial truck near the zipline. We went up with two of our guys, and they brought him down," he said.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. and the fire departments cleared the area by 5 p.m., Arkenburg said. He said it only took 10-12 minutes to bring the boy down.

"At no time was he in danger. The safety procedures all worked. It looks like it was a procedural error which has been corrected," Woodward said.

He said the Geneva-on-the-Lake and Geneva fire departments did a nice job.

"We train for this," Woodward said.

He said the young man was fine and was posing for pictures after the rescue.
