Watch: Worker Rescued after Extensive Operation in Louisville, KY

Nov. 15, 2024
The worker was trapped in a hole for nine hours before being lifted to the ground by Louisville firefighters.

A construction worker was rescued from a hole at a demolition site after a grueling, extended operation by Louisville firefighters, medics and rescue technicians.

After the worker fell about 10-15 feet into a void, he was buried with debris and dirt.

Seven hours into the operation, Fire Chief Brian O'Neill told WLKY that the rescue was a "very slow process" because of how easily the debris can shift around.

It would take another two hours before the man was hoisted to the ground.

The former community correctional center there is being demolished to make way for the future site of a park that will feature native plants, seating areas and space for food trucks.
