Dallas' Urban Search and Rescue Team was called in Friday when a man working in a ditch 16 feet deep became trapped up to his waist after the ditch's walls collapsed on him.

Dallas firefighters rescued a worker who became trapped when the ditch he was in collapsed on him Friday afternoon.

The man had been doing unspecified work in a ditch 16 feet deep near the intersection of Stone Canyon and Meadow roads when the ditch's walls collapsed on his legs, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Although the worker was able to free himself from the dirt that had trapped him up to his waist, his injuries kept him from climbing out of the hole.

Dallas' Urban Search and Rescue Team arrived at the scene just after 1:15 p.m., according to the department. Firefighters then were able to reach the worker and load him onto a Stokes basket before lifting him out of the ditch with a hoist system they assembled.

The worker was taken to a local hospital and evaluated. Details concerning the extent of the man's injuries were not released.
