Technical rescue crews and firefighters from St. Louis County worked as a team to free the man.

Crews from multiple departments in St. Louis County worked as a team to rescue a man from a trench.

The trench was approximately eight feet deep. Fortunately, the collapse only went up to the worker’s waist, according to KTVI.

He remained conscious and alert as crews worked to free him.

A technical rescue team responded to lead the operation, West County EMS and Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Ray White said.

Preliminary information indicates the worker was doing foundation work when the trench collapsed.

As the worker was pulled from the trench, some first responders exchanged high-fives and fist bumps.

“Everyone is relieved and I’m sure the patient is relieved to get out of there, for sure,” White said.
