3 FFs Injured in Kan. Townhouse Fire

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Three Kansas City, Kan., firefighters are recovering after they were hurt battling townhome fires late Thursday night. Fire crews were called to 78th Street and Washington Avenue about 10:30 p.m. KMBC reported that one firefighter was treated for a cut, another for a leg injury, and a third firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. The fire department said all three have been released from the hospital.

Three Kansas City, Kan., firefighters are recovering after they were hurt battling townhome fires late Thursday night.

Fire crews were called to 78th Street and Washington Avenue about 10:30 p.m.

KMBC reported that one firefighter was treated for a cut, another for a leg injury, and a third firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.

The fire department said all three have been released from the hospital.

In all, six units were evacuated. The fire damaged three townhomes. A fourth townhome had water damage.

It took about an hour to get the blaze under control, KCK fire officials said. The fire caused $250,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping two residents displaced by the fire.
