NFFF Honors Colorado Springs Fire Department with Ronald J. Siarnicki Seal of Excellence Award

CSFD's groundbreaking initiatives in behavioral health support, physical fitness programs, and comprehensive operational safety training have set a benchmark for fire service agencies nationwide.

Colorado Springs, CO – December 10, 2024 – The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) today honored the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) with the prestigious Ronald J. Siarnicki Seal of Excellence Award. This award celebrates CSFD's exemplary commitment to firefighter safety, health, and wellness through innovative programs and leadership. The Ronald J. Siarnicki Seal of Excellence is awarded to fire departments that demonstrate outstanding efforts to reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries. In recent years, CSFD's groundbreaking initiatives in behavioral health support, physical fitness programs, and comprehensive operational safety training have set a benchmark for fire service agencies nationwide. These efforts underscore the department’s unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of safety and wellness within the fire service.

“The Colorado Springs Fire Department exemplifies the best in firefighter health and safety, and their groundbreaking work will inspire other fire service agencies to follow their lead,” said NFFF Chief Executive Officer Victor Stagnaro. “Their programs not only protect their own members but serve as a model for fire departments across the United States. This recognition is well-deserved, and we are thrilled to celebrate their leadership in promoting firefighter resilience.”

The CSFD serves a population of over 500,000 residents and responds to more than 80,000 calls annually. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Randy Royal—recognized as Colorado’s ‘Fire Chief of the Year’ in 2023 and as the IAFC’s Career ‘Fire Chief of the Year’ in 2024—the department has experienced significant growth in safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness. CSFD has also made substantial progress addressing the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, a cornerstone of its mission to protect the lives of its members and the public.
