A trapped FDNY firefighter had to be pulled from the window of a Brooklyn brownstone by one of his colleagues Monday morning, according to The New York Daily News.
Crews responded to the fire in the Crown Heights neighborhood shortly after 9 a.m. and as they searched for victims inside, the top floor of the three-story structure erupted in flames, trapping at least one firefighter.
A witness told the newspaper that the firefighter was about to jump before his colleagues extended a ladder to him.
Another firefighter climbed to the top of the ladder and helped him exit to safety.
Flames could be seen coming off of the rescued firefighter's body as debris from the burning structure fell around them.
The injured firefighter was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell with burns over 30 percent of his body.
His injuries were considered to be serious but not life-threatening.
Four other firefighters were injured battling the blaze, one seriously, officials told the newspaper.
It took more than 100 firefighters over an hour to put out the two-alarm blaze.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
