HALLWOOD -- Virginia State Police have warrants charging a Virginia Beach police officer in a stabbing Sunday of two firefighters on the Eastern Shore.

The warrants charge Bradley Colas, 23, with two counts of malicious wounding of an emergency medical care provider, according to a state police news release. Colas, of the 1000 block of Isabella Lane in Virginia Beach, is in custody at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

State Police said Colas was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the 12000 block of Lankford Hwy. in Accomack County at about 6:42 a.m.

State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said that two firefighters were stabbed as they treated his injuries.

The firefighters fought back, striking him in the head, according to Anaya. Shots were then fired at the fire and rescue personnel.

Colas was walking away from the scene when he was stopped by state troopers, according to Anaya.

He was taken to the hospital for medical observation.
