Sep. 2--Multiple firefighters suffered burn injuries while battling one of two vegetation fires in rural Monterey County on Sunday, officials said. The first fire began before 3 p.m. in the area of Throne Road and Arroyo Seco Road in the town of Greenfield east of Big Sur near Highway 101.
"Multiple firefighters" at the scene were transported by air ambulance with burn injuries, officials with the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said.
It's unclear how many firefighters were injured. Their conditions were not released.
Minutes after the first fire was reported, firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire at Jolon and Bradley Lockwood roads 43 miles south in the town of Lockwood.
That fire, dubbed the Jolon Fire by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, prompted evacuations and was threatening at least three structures as it grew to 40 acres.
