Aug. 1, 2022
Spokane Valley Firefighter Dan Patterson collapsed July 21 at the front door of the fire station.

A Washington firefighter who suffered a sudden cardiac emergency at his fire station on July 21 will not survive.

Spokane Valley Fire Chief Frank Soto released a statement Sunday that Firefighter Dan Patterson will not recover from cardiac arrest.

He had worked his shift for 24 hours. And after leaving Station 2 to go for a run, Patterson called his wife, saying he didn't feel well. He returned to the fire house, and collapsed at the front door, the chief wrote.

Fellow firefighters started CPR and were able to regain a pulse. Patterson was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
