Released radio traffic captures the response to a massive fire at an assisted living facility that killed a resident and a New York firefighter earlier this week.
Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd was among the first to reach the scene, and he rushed into the burning Evergreen Court Home for Adults to rescue residents still trapped inside, WCBS-TV reports. But the fire's intensity grew, and the 15-year veteran became trapped himself and sent out a mayday call.

His fellow firefighters tried to pull him out, but heavy flames and smoke prevented them from reaching him. For hours after the fire was under control, firefighters scoured the rubble for Lloyd, and his body was found nearly a day after he became trapped.
"His #HEROIC efforts saved many lives," Rockland County Human Rights Commissioner Rabbi Yisroel Kahan stated in an online update.
“These folks all have pledged to put their lives on the line in service to us. And sadly, at times, that's exactly what occurs," Rockland County Executive Ed Day, who called Lloyd’s death a dark day for the area, told the Journal News.

Lloyd, 35, trained as a volunteer firefighter and had served in the fire service for 15 years. He made the rank of second lieutenant as part of Spring Valley's Columbian Engine Co. No. 1.
Lloyd is survived by his wife and two sons. On Wednesday, his eldest son, Logan, turned 6, and departments around Rockland County organized a parade of more than 150 apparatus and emergency vehicles for the boy.
"He was a great dad. Are you kidding me, man?" Calvin Lloyd, Jared's father and a retired NYPD patrol supervisor, told the Journal News. "That's what hurts me so much, that those boys are going to miss him. They loved him so much. They loved him as much as I loved him."
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Lloyd's family. In just over 15 hours, the campaign has raised more than $260,000 of its $500,000 goal.
