Randolph County firefighter Mishael James Auman was shot to death on Saturday and his wife is now charged with his murder.
According to WXII News 12, on June 25, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting on Ridge Road in Seagrove.
The 9-1-1 call reported an alleged "self-inflicted" gunshot wound, according to deputies.
Deputies found Auman suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to a local hospital, where he later died.
Auman, known as MJ to friends, was a member of the Seagrave Rural Volunteer Department for 21 years.
WXII reports that following an investigation of his death, an arrest warrant for MJ's wife, Heather Hicks Auman, 37, was issued.
On Wednesday, Heather Auman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Randolph County Fire Marshal Erik Beard said in a statement on the behalf of the Seagrove Rural Volunteer Fire Department, "MJ served the citizens of Randolph County and the Seagrove community for over 21 years. This is a devastating blow to the fire service of our county... MJ's infectious smile, outgoing personality and willingness to serve others will forever be missed throughout our county's fire service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the MJ's family and friends during this time of loss."
Heather Auman was denied bond and detained at the Randolph County Detention Center.
