Bonneville Hotshot Daniel Burns, who was operating at the Little Twist fire, has a long road to recovery.

A hotshot working to contain the Little Twist fire near Beaver was hit by a falling tree and seriously injured.

Daniel Burns is in his first year with the Bonnevile Hotshot crew.

He was flown to a hospital in southern Utah and has a long road of recovery ahead, KSL reported.

“Our thoughts are with our teammate on his road to healing,” a spokesperson from the Bureau of Land Management told reporters.

The fire started as a planned burn in the Fishlake National Forest by the Beaver Ranger District. But it jumped outside of the controlled burn limits and spread to remote areas with rugged terrain.

The fire, located four miles southeast of Beaver, is the largest burning in Utah and has been burning for over a week. As of Monday, the fire had spread to 2,398 acres and was only 10% contained.

The firefighter was reportedly injured while battling the blaze on Sunday.
