Three firefighters were taken to the hospital following a mayday being issued after a roof collapse at a home in Cuba in Western New York Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the home on Yankee Road just before 9 a.m. and firefighters from Allegany and Cattaraugus counties responded.
During the fire, WGRZ reports, the roof of the home collapsed and a mayday was called.
“Flames were through the roof, and it was well involved at the time,” Ischua Fire Chief Mark Kirtz told WGRZ.
Three firefighters were transported to the hospital. Officials said their injuries were not considered life threatening.
“I was born on this road, and I'll probably die on this road,” homeowner Brenda Wyant told the television. “I’m grateful it wasn’t today.”
She said her and her husband built the home and said they were grateful for the support of the local firefighters who came to help out.
“One of the firemen went in and brought up the family Bible. He saw it sitting there on the end table, and he brought it to me, and that means so much to me.”
