Medical Chopper Crash in Madison County, MS, Claims Three

Two University of Mississippi Medical Center crewmembers and a pilot were killed in the AirCare crash in Madison County.

The crash of a medical helicopter in Madison County Monday has left three dead.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) AirCare helicopter crashed in a wooded area near Natchez Trace Parkway and Pipeline Road, Madison County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Heath Hall told WJTV.

UMMC officials said the helicopter was returning from transporting a patient when it crashed. On board were a Med-Trans pilot and two UMMC crew members.

According to flight data collected by Clarion Leger, the chopper left St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson and disappeared from the radar 27 minutes later.

The crew was based at the Columbus, MS, helicopter base for UMMC.

Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are enroute to the scene to investigate.
