FDNY Firefighter Suffers Critical Injuries at Brooklyn Structure Fire

An FDNY firefighter sustained critical injuries during a two-alarm fire in a four-story apartment building in Brooklyn.

An FDNY firefighter suffered critical injuries during a two-alarm fire in Brooklyn Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 1133 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood and found fire in a four-story apartment building around 11:30 a.m., the New York Daily News reported.

According to the New York Post, the firefighter went into cardiac arrest.

"The firefighter was operating at a second-alarm fire when he suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest," Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker shared in a statement Sunday evening. "The firefighter was immediately treated by FDNY EMS and rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where was treated for his critical injuries."

Later, the firefighter was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital for advanced medical care.

The fire was declared under control just before 1:30 p.m. and nearly 100 firefighters responded.

A second firefighter and two civilians where injured, the Daily News reported.
