To protect the health of your firefighters, a properly designed decon laundry is essential whether in a new or renovated station. Mitchell Associates Architects is a leader in decon laundry design and lectures nationally on the right way to do it. We authored a chapter in the International Association of Fire Chiefs station design manual, and our integrated training designs are featured in the new FEMA fire/EMS station design manual. Over the past 27 years, we have done more than 175 fire station projects addressing more than 300 stations and have won seven national gold awards for fire station design. In a recent study we demonstrated how nine older fire stations in City of Philadelphia could be remodeled to provide proper decon laundries along with hot zone showers, accident reduction, critically designed lighting, integrated training features, gender equity, quiet sleeping quarters, and other improvements critical to firefighter health and safety.
