Funds Needed to Finish Fire Station in Jones County, MS

July 23, 2024
While the exterior of the Shady Grove fire station is done, firefighters say they're at a standstill until they obtain money.

Shady Grove volunteer firefighters are asking the public to help them finish their new fire station.

While the exterior is done, there's still a lot to do inside, Fire Chief David Houston told WJTV.

The increased cost of bulding materials led them to running out of money faster than they realized. They've used $92,000 in county funds and believe they need at least $10,000 more.

"The original fire station was built more than 30 years ago and will only house two to five fire trucks. It also does not have adequate air conditioning and office space. Officials said they need the bigger space to properly serve the community," the chief explained.

The new station will have it all -- more space and better air conditioning.
