Oct. 22—EDWARDSVILLE — Resolutions totaling almost $1.5 million for 911-related communications purchases were approved last week by the Madison County Board.
Approved was a resolution for a contract with Nokia of America Corp. for $728,201.14 for transmission tower improvements and maintenance; and $710,544.01 for the purchase of 95 portable radios for the Long Lake, Venice and Mitchell fire departments from Motorola Solutions at a cost of $701,544.01.
The transmission tower improvements are part of a larger "county-wide" radio project Madison County 911 officials are planning.
Part of the cost will be paid by the state as part of the 911 consolidation grant when that project is completed and approved, with the county picking up the rest.
The radio purchase will allow the Glen Carbon 911 call center to dispatch emergency responders in Venice, Mitchell and the Long Lake Fire Protection District as part of the 911 consolidation. Those departments currently use a different radio platform.
The board also approved a contract with Pyramid Electric Contractors for $221,290 for emergency power circuitry for the Madison County Jail.
Other financial issues ranging from approval of matching funds for the reconstruction of North Alby Street in Godfrey to purchasing vaccines from multiple sources for the Madison County Health Department were also dealt with.
The reconstruction of North Alby Street from an area approximately 350 feet south of Cannavan Drive north to Humbert Road is planned.
The county's share of the cost will be $130,800.
Three resolutions to purchase multiple vaccines for the Madison County Health Department's immunization program from Glaxo Smith Kline; Merck Sharp & Dohme; and Sanofi Pasteur totaling up to $175,000 were also approved.
The board OK'd resolutions awarding contracts totaling $474,684 for the construction of a building addition and parking lot improvements to the offices of Madison County's Special Service Area 1, which provides sanitary sewer service for much of southwestern Madison County.
Both the building addition and parking lot resolutions had been amended by the Sewer Committee.
The original cost of the building was $206,000, but was increased to $213,172 because of additions to the scope of work. R.W. Boeker Inc. was awarded the contract.
The parking lot contract was awarded to Stutz Excavating Inc. It was originally for $144,600, but was increased to $261,476 because of a large revision in the scope of work, including adding almost 10,000 square feet of lot repaving.
In other business, the committee also approved resolutions for payment of $75,000 each in ARPA funds to East Alton and the St. Louis Regional Airport. East Alton will use the money for sewer projects, while the airport funding will go toward stormwater issues.
Also approved were eight separate immediate emergency appropriations totaling $534,556.82. Most were grants to various county agencies, including the Child Advocacy Center, Health Department, Public Defender's Office, State's Attorney's Office and Sheriff's Department.
