PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC. has announced its 2014 regional training schedule for Pierce dealers and customers. The company is offering a wide range of apparatus maintenance and troubleshooting classes – featuring a new mobile training unit – at three locations: Appleton, WI; Palmetto, FL; and Las Vegas, NV. Custom training classes are also available at individual fire departments across the country.
The regional training program, in its 10th year, features for the first time in 2014 a specially engineered training unit with built-in training tools, allowing students more opportunities for hands-on learning.
“The hands-on aspect is always a winner, as our customers’ technicians like to learn with their hands,” said Dan Bailey, Pierce product training manager. “With the new mobile classroom training unit, which includes a Command Zone simulator, a PUC pump and TAK-4 suspension, they’ll be able to troubleshoot, dismantle and work on electrical, suspension and pump components right on the truck.”
Offered classes feature a wide range of topics, including Chassis Electrical, TAK-4 Maintenance, Command Zone II, Side Roll Protection Repair, Aerial Maintenance, Husky Foam System and Hercules CAFS Maintenance, Air Brake and ABS Troubleshooting, PUC Repair and Maintenance, Air Conditioning Maintenance and a new Advanced Aerial Class.

FLIR SYSTEMS INC. is extending a trade-in program that lets fire departments receive an even deeper discount on the purchase of a new FLIR K-Series thermal imaging camera when they trade and send in any other qualifying make or model of firefighting thermal camera. The program was due to expire Dec. 31. Now, the K-Series Trade-in program will remain in effect through the end of day June 30, 2014.
FLIR established an affordable price point for its K-Series line to help municipalities stretch budgets and buy more thermal imagers. To qualify for the deeper discount, fire departments must trade in and send in their existing firefighting thermal imaging camera, regardless of age, make, model or working condition, along with submitting applicable forms.
The goal is to make it more viable for more firefighters to take advantage of the benefits of thermal imaging. By being able to see through smoke and visualize hot spots, K-Series thermal imagers help improve situational awareness and safety, which in turn helps first responders attack fires more strategically and enhances their ability to find and rescue victims faster.
