Woman in Racist Video Rants Fatally Struck by NC Fire Vehicle

The 41-year-old woman died after suffering serious injuries when she stepped out into traffic and was hit by an Asheville Fire Department pickup truck, according to a witness.

A woman who had gained notoriety for her racist comments in viral videos has died after she was struck by a North Carolina fire vehicle.

Rachel Dawn Ruit, 41, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with serious injuries following the accident Monday afternoon, The Raleigh News & Observer reports. She died at the hospital Tuesday.

According to police, officers responded to an accident involving Ruit, of nearby Henderson County, and an Asheville Fire Department picking truck, the News & Observer reports. An individual who claimed to have witnessed the crash wrote on Facebook that he saw Ruit "accidentally step out into traffic."

Ruit had faced charges stemming from a reported assault on a black teenager near a park in downtown Asheville. A woman identified as Ruit also was seen yelling racist remarks in separate incidents in June and July, the News & Observer added.
