The Box Elder, SD, Volunteer Fire Department has taken delivery of a 2017 3,500-gallon tender built by Missouri Fire Apparatus. It is built on a 2016 Freightliner M2 cab and chassis. The new tender nearly doubles the department's capacity to transport water to rural areas to fight structure and wildland fires. Other features include a 500-gpm PTO pump, a 4,000-gallon portable tank, SCBA storage, scene lights and four lower body equipment storage cabinets. Box Elder is the busiest all volunteer department in South Dakota responding to over 700 calls annually in its 81 square mile district as well as providing mutual aid to neighboring departments.
