A Dallas fire officer seriously injured when his rig toppled off an overpass was released from the hospital.
Lt. John Hampton and three other firefighters were responding to an emergency when their fire truck hydroplaned, crashed through a guardrail and plunged off the overpass. The rig landed on its side on the tracks below, WFAA reported.
Someone inside the truck called a Mayday, explained what happened and requested a heavy rescue be added to the assignment.
"Pretty emotional. Pretty emotional for everyone because each person knows him in their own aspect. Tremendous character, tremendous guy, tremendous fireman," Deputy Chief Jeff Wallis said.
