ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Roswell Fire Department on Saturday, Jan. 18, will unveil a memorial honoring Jeff Stroble, a firefighter who died from injuries suffered in an explosion last year.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. outside the north end of the Roswell Convention Center, according to a department news release issued Wednesday.

The memorial will be at the site of other markers dedicated to Chaves County law enforcement officers, firefighters an emergency medical personnel who have died in the line of duty.

Stroble, a 46-year-old fire apparatus operator who had served with the Roswell Fire Department for 17 years, was severely injured on June 5, 2019, when firefighters were packaging fireworks for the city’s Independence Day celebration and an explosion occurred, according to past news reports. He died six and a half weeks later.

“The funds for the Stroble memorial were generated through a fundraiser organized by the Roswell Professional Firefighters Association,” the news release read.
