Stranger Pays for Groceries of AL Firefighters Headed to Call

When Mobile firefighters had to leave their items at the checkout to respond to a call, they returned to the store to find a generous stranger had picked up the tab.

Firefighters at an Alabama fire department are grateful for the kindness of a stranger who picked up the tab on their grocery bill this week.

The crew of Mobile Fire-Rescue's Engine 12 was shopping at Publix when they were called to an emergency in the area, the department stated in an online update. The firefighters immediately left their items at the checkout and responded to the call.

While the firefighters were en route, the call was canceled, and they returned to the store. And they had a pleasant surprise when they got there.

"The crew returned to the store to discover their groceries bagged and waiting with this note from store personnel," the department stated. "A large-hearted stranger who was waiting in line with our firefighters decided to flex their generosity this morning."

The department shared a photo of the store's note online. It read:

"Fire, you are appreciated. A customer paid for y'alls orders. Thank you for all you do!"

Although the identity of the generous stranger is still a mystery to firefighters, they're still very grateful for the gesture.

"We don't know who you are, but you are amazing!" the department stated. "We'll certainly pay it forward. We love you, Mobile!"
