A North Carolina firefighter was charged after he drew a gun on a woman at an accident scene earlier this month.
The incident involving Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire Department firefighter Jeffery Sherwood, 51, happened June 12 as crews were responding to a crash in eastern Columbus County. Scott faces a charge of misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, WWAY-TV reports.
According to the report filed with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, a woman was driving east along Andrew Jackson Highway, approaching the accident. As she passed the scene, she turned around on the median to return to the crash site. That resulted in a confrontation with a first responder at the scene, with an apparatus moving over to block the driver.
Sherwood then stepped in and pulled a firearm on the driver, the report stated. When the fire chief reached the accident scene, Sherwood holstered the weapon, and the driver left the scene after talking with the chief.
The charges against Sherwood came following an investigation by the sheriff's office. The driver also was cited for a traffic violation in the incident.
