Clyde Fire Department Assistant Chief Dean Castaldo and his wife, Shani Castaldo, were indicted by a grand jury with multiple felonies in February for embezzling money from the department.
The charges brought against the Castaldos include two counts of embezzlement of less that $100,000 and conspiracy to embezzle.
According to the indictments, the Castaldos did “embezzle and fraudulently and knowingly misapply and convert to his own use … take and make away with and secrete moneys belonging to the Clyde Volunteer Fire Department, Incorporated for the purchase and payment of personal items and debts,” Smokey Mountain News reported.
Both of the Castaldos were issued an unsecured bond at $35,000, Dean is scheduled to appear in court on April 11, Shani is scheduled to appear on April 25.
