FORT WORTH, Texas --

Firefighters rescued a man who they said tried to drive across a flooded road Thursday night.

Flash flooding swept the man's car into Deer Creek near Oak Grove Road in South Fort Worth. The car came to rest near some trees where the man waited for rescue teams.

Fort Worth Fire and Rescue's Mark Smith said the incident is an example of why drivers should never try to cross a flooded road.

"Six inches of water will wash your car off the road," he said. "If you can't see the road, don't go through it."

The man went to John Peters Smith Hospital for observation and was later released.
