SEATTLE --

One person was killed in a raging two-alarm fire at an apartment building in the 1600 block of Bellevue Avenue in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

A neighbor said the person was a senior citizen who had difficulty getting out of the building.

The Marion apartment building is on the east side of Interstate 5. The Seattle Fire Department said the fire started on the first floor of the building, but spread to the top of the four-story building.

The entire building became engulfed in flames and multiple fire crews responded to fight the blaze.

Video from Chopper 7 showed firefighters on the roof trying to break through to vent the flames.

Chopper video showed burning pieces of the building falling to the ground and flames shooting into the air.

Several businesses are registered to the building, which was being converted to condominiums.

Fire Department spokesman Helen Fitzpatrick said the victim was the only person in the older building that was scheduled to be torn down.
