Firefighters Battle Fire in Former School in Fall River, MA

The roof collapsed during the incident that remains under investigation, Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon said.

Fall River firefighters battled a fire at the former Silvia School on Hartwell Street in Fall River Saturday afternoon. .

Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon told WPRI crews encountered heavy flames and smoke.

The roof collapsed during the fire that remains under investigation.

“We may have to bring in heavy machinery to start knocking the building down to get to some of the hotspots to get the fire out,” Bacon explained.
