Connecticut Firefighters Hurt at Blaze

VERNON, Conn. --

Three Vernon firefighters were injured and transported to the hospital after responding to a call about a building fire at 14 Reed St. Saturday morning, the Vernon Police Department said.

Police got a call at 7:44 a.m. about a structure fire. The caller said the victims were trapped inside, police said.

Arriving officers found the west side of the building engulfed in flames and forced their way in to search for residents, the police department said.

One resident was found injured near the side of the building and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Among the three firefighters sent to the hospital for injuries, two had smoke inhalation and one had a knee injury.

The fire is under investigation and NBC30.com will provide more details as they become available.
