WASHINGTON, D.C. -- D.C. fire officials say a river cruise boat has struck a fireboat, causing severe damage.
D.C. fire spokesman Alan Etter says the Spirit of Washington was backing out of its dock on the city's southwest waterfront around 1:15 p.m. Saturday when it hit the 70-foot John Glenn fireboat.
He says the crash has caused about a 15-foot long gash in the middle of the fireboat, above the water line. The fireboat was docked at the time. He says three fire department members on the John Glenn were shaken, but uninjured. Four crew members on the Spirit were also uninjured. There were no guests aboard at the time.
Etter says the Coast Guard and D.C. Police Harbor Patrol are investigating. He says the John Glenn will be out of service until further notice.
