PORT ORANGE, Fla. --
The brand new Port Orange Police Department went up in flames Tuesday.
The new police department on Clyde Morris Boulevard, which is still under construction, caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
According to Port Orange Fire and Rescue, sparks from welders ignited tar paper on the roof.
Firefighters from Port Orange and South Daytona worked for more than two hours to put out the flames.
Division Chief Christopher Weird said the amount of damage has been initially estimated to be around $25,000.
The police station was set to open in January 2010.
No one was injured in the blaze.
