PENDER COUNTY, N.C. -- A volunteer firefighter has lost his job after authorities in Pender County say he was caught stealing gas out of a fire truck.

22-year-old Lance Michael Rossell was arrested on several theft charges after investigators say he was caught on tape stealing gas out of a fire truck.

He has since been released on a $10,000 bond, but will no longer work for the Shiloh Columbia Fire Department.

The Shiloh Columbia Fire Department Chief said they set up cameras to catch Rossell stealing the fuel, and then funneling it into plastic containers.

The video was given to the Pender County Sheriff's Department and they arrested Rossell on Friday.

He was at the scene of a building that had mysteriously burned down several weeks ago.

Rossell denied even knowing about that fire, but the Sheriff wants to know why Rossell was at the old fire scene.

Now, investigators are trying to determine who set the fire.
