The small home spewed smoke and fire. A call was placed to 911 and City of Richmond firefighters were toned out at 9:15 a.m. for a structure fire call at 4005 Tyrone Street on June 24.
Responding were Quints 21, 22 and 17. Also responding were Engine 17, Rescue 3, Richmond Ambulance Authority-2 units and Battalion 3.
First on scene entered the home to search for victims. The Richmond female firefighter and her crew mates encountered extreme conditions taking a hard hit of heat and smoke upon entry. It was discovered no residents were home.
One of the firefighters, a female crew member sustained second degree burns on her hands and a burned helmet.
"She was transported by Richmond Ambulance Authority to VCU Medical Center," said Lt. Mike Oprandy, Richmond PIO.
Further details and her name have not been released.
Firefighters fought a tough battle and at last gained the upper hand over the fire.
Accountability checks were done, rehab and vital checks were handled by Richmond Ambulance Authority medics.
The cause is under investigation. The home is total loss.
