ARLINGTON, Va. -- Sixteen construction workers were injured in a partial collapse at a high-rise building in Arlington, Va., News4's Michael Flynn reported.
The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. on the 24th floor of a building under construction in the 1900 block of Lynn Street. Officials said a 16-by-30-foot section of wet concrete gave way, collapsing onto the 24th floor, which is the floor below the roof deck.
Three of the workers suffered critical injuries, four suffered serious injuries and nine had injuries that were considered minor, authorities said. The injured workers were taken to George Washington University Medical Center, Arlington Virginia Hospital Center and Inova Fairfax Hospital.
A technical rescue team was called to the scene to extricate two trapped workers. Both workers had been freed by about 10:45 a.m.
Oscar Moscoso said he was about 15 feet away from the collapse when it happened. He told News4 that he helped pull some of the workers out of the rubble before exiting the building.
Authorities said the site is secure. Building inspectors and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are at the scene.
