A Pontiac firefighter was injured battling a fire that destroyed a home, according to officials.

Firefighters said the fire started inside the kitchen of a house on Murphy Street in Pontiac early Friday morning.

A firefighter was rushed to the hospital after a window crashed down on him, cutting his foot, according to authorities.

Police said the fire started while the tenant was cooking. He stepped stepped into the next room to feed his baby and something on the stove caught on fire, according to police.

"My boyfriend called me and told me to come home. The house was on fire. He was on one end and my son was on the other end and he got my son out and put the baby outside and ran back in to get my daughter," Amy Misetich, one of the tenants told Local 4.

The family inside was able to get out and there were no other injuries.

The firefighter is expected to be fine.
