The Sun Prairie Fire Department is organizing a dig-out of the city's 1,300 fire hydrants on Saturday.
Fire officials said that many area fire hydrants remain buried by snow, making fires even harder to fight.
The dig-out will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Fire officials said that residents are encouraged to grab a shovel and lend a hand.
"There are a lot of the neighbors that have dug them out or started digging them out after they dig their driveway. But there's a lot of areas that do need help," said Steve Knaus, chief at the Sun Prairie Fire Department.
Those interested in helping can call the fire department at 608-837-5066 or just show up at the station before 8 a.m. on Saturday.
