Staten Island, NY, May 20, 2005 -- Firefighter Jeff Mulligan, the chauffeur of FDNY Ladder 80, was venting the second-floor windows at an all-hands fire. He then entered one of the windows to check for extension, but three minutes later he was forced to dive through a front window when the attic flashed over. Fire was venting out the top of the window when he exited onto the aerial ladder. He suffered first-degree burns. He was wearing all of his personal protective equipment. The fire traveled up the walls from the first floor to the attic.
