DRAPER, Utah (AP) -- A man was seriously injured and he and his family had to go out a second-floor window when fire spread through their apartment.

The fire broke out Wednesday morning in the apartment of a couple with two small children.

Mike Wold, 28, attempted unsuccessfully to put out the fire.

He and his wife, Melissa, then grabbed their 2-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son and ran to a bedroom window. He dropped about 15 feet from the window and his wife dropped the children to him.

Melissa Wold then climbed out the window to safety, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Michael Jensen.

Mike Wold suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Jensen said. Wold's wife and children were not injured.

Jensen said the cause of the fire has not been determined. Damage was estimated at $200,000.
