OREGON CITY, Ore. -- It may have been the quickest fire response ever -- when Oregon City firefighters found flames coming out of their own fire station.

Clackamas County dispatchers called the Fire Station #16 early Thursday morning to tell them someone had reported seeing smoke coming from the fire station. By that point, alarms were already sounding, waking up the sleeping firefighters around 1:30 a.m.

Captain Jamie Karn with the Clackamas Co. Fire Dept. said one of the fire engines had caught fire, sparking the blaze. The truck had been parked the day before, because it had mechanical problems.

Firefighters managed to pull another fire truck out of the station at 19340 Mollala Avenue in Oregon City, in order to fight the flames. But not before hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage was caused to the fire engine -- and the station.

Three firefighters suffered minor smoke inhalation while battling the blaze. But Karn said they would be okay.
