Folks in the small Geneva County town of Slocumb were still being kept away from their homes on Wednesday morning after a large fire erupted Tuesday. Officials say the smoke in the air could have chemicals in it and it could make someone sick.

About 4,200 people were forced to evacuate just before noon on Tuesday when the fire broke out at the Mathis Farm Supply. Early Wednesday morning the fire was still smoldering, however a limited number of people are being allowed back to their homes.

On Wednesday officials shut down all businesses east of Morris Street that includes the entire downtown area of Slocumb. All schools in Slocumb are closed for the day on Wednesday.

Luckily, no injuries were reported Tuesday.
