Aug. 18--FORT WORTH Two people -- one with more than 100 bee stings -- were taken to local hospitals Sunday afternoon after a swarm of bees attacked residents in a northeast Fort Worth neighborhood, authorities said.
An elderly man who suffered the multiple stings and was in-and-out of consciousness from the attack was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital.
A MedStar EMT who had arrived on the scene to treat the injured residents also was taken to a local hospital after suffering numerous stings, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said Sunday.
The conditions of the men were not immediately available.
A second resident, another EMT and four firefighters were also stung by bees, and were treated at the scene.
The bee attack was reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of Galvez Avenue.
"The bees were in a dilapidated building on the property," said Fort Worth Battalion Chief Richard Harrison. "At this time, we don't know what caused the bees to attack."
Initially, two residents were attacked, and the insects turned on firefighters and EMTs when they arrived.
Authorities called a beekeeper to help resolve the situation.
