Ark. Chief Looks at Defective Brakes in Apparatus Crash

Feb. 20, 2016
The Marble fire chief believes the pumper's brakes were defective when a pumper crashed into an 18-wheeler.

A firefighter was injured in a crash between a fire apparatus and an 18-wheeler in Marble Friday.

The Marble Fire Department pumper was responding to a field fire when the crash happened as the rig made a right turn on to Highway 412. The cab of the semi crashed into the driver's area of the pumper.

Fire Chief Ron Pfeiffer told the Madison County Record that the brakes on the apparatus may have been defective.

A witness told the newspaper that it did not appear that the apparatus driver tried to stop.

Firefighters from Huntsville responded to assist with extrication and the firefighter was taken to the hospital by helicopter. The extent of injuries is unknown.

The driver of the semi appeared to be uninjured, local media reports.
