MA Fire Chief to Retire Next Summer

Dec. 12, 2019
Orleans Fire Chief Anthony Pike, who joined the department in 1979 and has been its leader since 2014, will retire in June, before the busy summer months.

ORLEANS, MA—Fire Chief Anthony Pike has announced his intention to resign next year.

Pike made the announcement at the Board of Selectmen's meeting Dec. 3 while giving his quarterly report. His plan is to retire in June, before the busy summer months.

Pike has been chief since 2014, but his career with the Orleans Fire Department started in 1979. He was a call firefighter before turning full time in 1988. He served as captain from 2000 to 2008. From 2008 to 2014 he was deputy chief.

Pike thanked the men and women of the department for their dedication and support through the years. He called Deputy Chief Geof Deering a talented officer and said he had confidence in him over the department.

Selectmen Mark Mathison, Kevin Galligan and Mefford Runyon were unanimous in their praise for Pike.

"You set an example with your service and dedication to the town," Mathison said.
