Friends and family mourn the loss of a Walker County Firefighter killed while responding to a call on New Years Eve.
Twenty-four year old Jarrett Little died when the fire truck he was driving flipped over on the way to a structure fire.
Chief Randy Camp, "Just a sad day."
Flags fly at half staff in front of Walker County fire stations to honor one of their own.
24 year old Jarrett Little..killed in a wreck while doing the job he loved.
Randy Camp, Walker Fire Chief, "It's just one of those things that's a shock to the department."
Little and two other firefighters were headed up Mission Ridge Road around 11 o clock Wednesday night, to help another station fight a structure fire.
When he made a left turn on McFarland Avenue, Chief Camp says the truck flipped trapping Little inside.
Dale Anderson, "It was around 2 o clock."
Several hours later when Dale Anderson passed by, signs of the wreck remained.
Anderson, "All we saw at the time we came through was the fire trucks cleaning up the area so we didn't really know what had happened."
News of what happened is hard to take.
Anderson, "That just breaks my heart because we've had several pass away this Christmas holiday so that just adds another one to a sad family."
It's even harder for the close knit family of fellow fire fighters.
Chief Camp, "We really live with each other for 24 hours at a time and we share each other's happy times and sad times. It's a togetherness that's really hard to explain. When something happens to one of our own it's a devastating blow."
Little comes from a family of firefighters.
His brother currently fights fires for Walker county and his dad used to volunteer.
Chief Camp, "It's just a shock for them as much as us."
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck
The Walker County Fire Department is accepting donations for the Little Family at the fire stations.
