A firefighter from a Virginia county just north of Richmond has died after an accident involving an apparatus and a tractor trailer at a crash scene.

Hanover County fire Lt. Brad Clark was killed and two other firefighters badly injured in the wreck Thursday night around 9 p.m. on southbound I-295, according to a Facebook post by Hanover County Fire & EMS.

The Hanover crew was responding to a two-vehicle crash when the tractor trailer lost control in rainy conditions and slammed into the rear of their engine. The 43-year-old Clark, who was a 13-year fire service veteran, died at the scene and the two injured firefighters were transported in serious condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer had to be extricated from the cab of the vehicle and was also transported for treatment with serious injuries.

"Please join Hanover County Fire-EMS as we mourn the death of Lieutenant Brad Clark and keep his family and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers," the department's Facebook post reads.
