A veteran Wyoming firefighter has died after spending six months battling COVID-19.
Laramie County Fire District #2 announced in a Facebook post that Assistant Chief Charles "Chuck" Scottini had lost his lengthy fight against the virus after contracting it while on a wildfire assignment in Colorado.
Assistant Chief Scottini, who was 67 and joined the fire district in 1998, was relocated to a hospital in Utah after being infected. He returned to Wyoming on April 21 and was in hospice care until he passed away peacefully Saturday morning with his family by his side.
"He will be dearly missed by all," the Facebook post says.
