A North Carolina firefighter died suddenly from a medical event Monday.
Ronald McGarvey, a captain with Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, was returning home after his shift just after 8 a.m., the department stated in an online update. On the way home, McGarvey suffered a medical emergency.
A Union County sheriff's deputy began trying to revive him while rescue crews responded.

"Despite their best efforts, crews were unable to revive Captain McGarvey," the department stated.
