An Ohio fire chief died Wednesday while responding to a call, according to reports.
Tiltonsville Fire Chief Doug Dugan. 62, suffered a medical emergency while battling a boat fire in Yorkville, the Wheeling News-Register reports. He was a 50-year veteran of the fire service, beginning with the Glen Robbins Fire Department, as well as being a member of the Rayland Fire Department.
In a social media post Wednesday, the Pottery Addition Volunteer Fire Department said Tiltonsville "lost their chief today unexpectedly." Other departments around the area also offered their condolences and mourned the Dugan.
"Chief Dugan died in the line of duty today while responding to an emergency with his department," Wintersville Fire Department wrote in an online update. "He was a long time leader in the fire service and was a mentor to many and a friend to even more. He will be greatly missed. Rest easy Chief Dugan."
Gov. Mike DeWine ordered flags be flown at half-staff throughout Jefferson County for Dugan. A celebration of Dugan’s life will be Sunday at the Tiltonsville Volunteer Fire Department, and uneral services will be Monday at the department.
